We have an immediate opening for a Public Relations Manager with 4-6 years of experience, preferably in the AEC industry. We are looking for a creative, passionate, and strategic thinker who will be responsible for managing firm wide public relations efforts, working directly with Bohlin Cywinski Jackson’s principals, internal marketing group, and project teams. This person must be a team player with good leadership skills and the ability to collaborate with people at all levels. The ideal candidate has a demonstrated capability to develop and implement proactive media outreach strategies. The position will be based in our San Francisco office, with occasional travel to BCJ’s five other locations (Seattle, New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Wilkes-Barre).
  • Responsibilities
    • Develop and implement targeted media strategies and communications plans that successfully promote the firm’s work and leadership
    • Work closely with principals, marketing directors, firm wide marketing group, and project teams to advance key stories/messaging
    • Create and execute communications plans and ensure all promotional efforts align with and complement the firm’s business development goals, brand, and mission
    • Maintain strong relationships with editors, reporters, clients, and team members, and serve as the firm’s main point of contact and liaison with the media
    • Write and edit promotional materials, including press releases, media pitches, social media posts, web content, awards, internal communications, and other marketing collateral as needed
    • Serve as primary contact for the firm’s external PR agency, working together to increase media placement locally, national, and internationally
    • Identify media trends and insights, continually sharing best practices and serving as an advisor to internal teams and senior leadership
    • Research coverage and industry trends, and monitor the media (newspapers, magazines, journals, broadcasts, newswires, and blogs) for promotional opportunities
    • Monitor, analyze, and share results for promotional efforts regularly, and during firm wide principal meetings
    • Compile and maintain an editorial schedule of all relevant media and industry publications
    • Identify awards opportunities as related to publications, both for on the boards and completed projects
    • Coordinate promotional efforts with project teams and clients to highlight design collaborations, helping to increase visibility for both parties across a variety of audiences
    • Manage the firm’s social media efforts

• Bachelor degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Communications or related field preferred; master’s degree a plus
• Minimum of 4-6 years of in-house public relations experience or equivalent required
• Track record of successful media placements
• Superior written and oral communication skills
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite
• Strong organizational skills
• Able to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects
• Experience working independently as well as within teams in a professional environment
• Strong interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure
• Familiarity with national and international design media, existing relationships with press contacts preferred
• Interest/learned knowledge in architecture and design a plus
